The Hidden Economy Behind Every AI Prompt

AI just reached another milestone

Last week, the United Nations convened its first-ever government-level global dialogue on AI in Geneva, bringing together governments, researchers, and some of the biggest names in technology.¹ That shift alone tells us something. Not long ago, AI conferences were the domain of engineers, academics, and tech companies. Now they draw heads of state, policymakers, and international institutions.

One comment from UN Secretary-General António Guterres stood out to me. He warned that a technology capable of reshaping economies, transforming work, swaying elections, and tilting the balance of security is being deployed faster than anyone, including the people building it, can keep up.¹ 

That's a remarkable statement because it confirms what many people have already begun to suspect. Artificial intelligence is becoming part of the world's critical infrastructure. And that made me think about something else entirely.

Have you ever wondered what actually happens?

Most people interact with AI the same way. They open ChatGPT, type a question, wait a few seconds, and read the answer. Done. It's so effortless that few stop to consider what happened in those few seconds.

Say someone asks AI to summarise a fifty-page report, write an email, or generate an image. From their side, it looks like just another webpage loading. Behind the scenes, it's anything but simple. Thousands of advanced processors work together. Data races through fibre optic cables. 

Servers spread across enormous data centres process information almost instantly, while cooling systems keep those machines from overheating and networking equipment routes requests around the world. Power stations keep it all running, and engineers monitor the systems around the clock.

It happens so quickly that most people barely notice. Yet every single prompt relies on one of the most sophisticated pieces of infrastructure humanity has ever built.

I find complicated ideas easier to explain with ordinary examples. Imagine walking into your favourite coffee shop. You order a cappuccino, and five minutes later someone hands you a cup. Simple, except we all know it isn't.

Someone grew the beans and transported them across continents. Someone manufactured the espresso machine and designed the payment terminal. Someone built the café and generated the electricity powering it. The cappuccino was never the whole story. It was simply the part you could see.

AI works the same way. The prompt is the cappuccino. The real economy sits underneath it.

AI isn't just software!

Aor the past few years, we've talked about AI as though it's another software industry. Software can be copied. Infrastructure can't. You don't build a hyperscale data centre overnight. You don't suddenly manufacture hundreds of thousands of advanced AI chips because demand spikes. You don't conjure reliable electricity or global fibre networks at the click of a button. These things take years, sometimes decades.

That's one reason governments are paying attention. It's not simply that AI can answer questions. It's that whoever owns the infrastructure shapes who can build the next generation of AI.

The UN meeting wasn't really about chatbots. It was about something much bigger. 

How should countries cooperate?
Who should have access to advanced AI?
How concentrated should computing power become?
What happens if only a handful of companies or countries own most of the world's AI infrastructure?

Those are difficult questions, and the concentration is already stark. According to the UN-backed independent scientific assessment, the United States accounts for 75% of the computing power among the world's top 500 AI supercomputers, with China at 15%.¹ But it's clear the conversation has moved well beyond technology companies. It's now a geopolitical discussion. 

The economy nobody talks about

When people discuss AI, they usually talk about models. Which company is winning, which chatbot is smartest, which image generator looks most realistic. I find myself thinking about everything else. The electricity, the networking, the cooling, the data centres, the chips, the land they're built on, and the companies developing new ways to move, secure, and process data.

None of these things make headlines. They're not exciting, and most people never think about them. Yet without them, none of the AI products we use every day would exist. Often the most valuable part of a technology revolution isn't the product everyone sees. It's the infrastructure everyone forgets.

My take

The United Nations may have spent this week debating how AI should be governed. I came away thinking about something slightly different. Every AI prompt sets an enormous global economy into motion. Chips, electricity, networking, engineers, construction, cooling, software, and security.

It's mostly invisible, and most people never think about it. Yet it's one of the largest industrial build-outs happening today.

The point I keep coming back to is simple. Not just who builds the smartest AI, but who builds everything that makes AI possible. Because in the end, the prompt is only what we see. The real story is everything happening underneath it.

There has been significant volatility in digital assets and their value can decline rapidly, which in turn would lead to a decline in the stock price of companies holding digital assets. Intellistake is developing custom AI software systems called "AI Agents" for businesses. It recently announced the development of IntelliScope, a newly designed enterprise artificial-intelligence (AI) suite that applies decentralized AI technologies to deliver transparent and verifiable corporate intelligence. IntelliScope, which is in testing, is being publicly introduced as Intellistake's enterprise AI suite, reflecting the Company's focus on advancing practical applications of decentralized AI technologies.

The IntelliScope suite is being developed as a collection of modular AI agents, each intended to address specific enterprise challenges. Development has advanced through internal closed testing, where functionality is being refined and validated. It is now moving into commercialization with PowerBank Corporation as its first customer.

The Company intends to deliver these solutions either as one-time projects or ongoing subscription services. Revenue is expected to come from implementation fees and monthly subscription payments. Intellistake is just commencing operations.
