I Said I Would Not Explain the Technology. Here Is the Part That Is Already Public.

Recently, I wrote about olfaction (the sense of smell).
I made a point of saying that I would not describe how the NanoAi detection technology works. Not the materials, not the design, not the model. That still stands, and it will keep standing.
A few people came back with a fair question. If you will not tell us anything, how is anyone supposed to judge it?
That is a reasonable thing to ask. So let me do the one thing I can do.
There is a paper
It was published in Scientific Reports, part of the Nature family of journals, in March 2022. It is open access. Anyone can read it right now, for free, without asking me for permission and without me sitting in the middle explaining it.1
The author list is public. Two researchers from the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas. Four people from Sotech Health in Dallas, Texas, including Craig Micklich, who founded NanoAi and who would join our board on closing. And one doctor at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, where the patient work was carried out.
Our announcement described Craig as a co-author on peer reviewed research underlying the core technology.2 This is that research.
What it is not
The paper is from 2022. It describes a handheld breathalyzer built to screen for COVID. The company named on it is Sotech Health.
It is not a description of what NanoAi builds today, and I am not offering it as one. Different year, different application, different problem.
So why raise it at all?
Because most private technology companies have no public record whatsoever. You are asked to take the founder's word for everything. Here there is something on the record, written down years before we ever had a conversation, sitting in a journal where other scientists could take it apart if they wanted to.
Why I am not going to summarize it
I could walk you through what the paper says. I have decided not to.
If you are interested to get the details, you can visit the source directly, rather than from the chief executive of the company doing the deal. I have an obvious interest in how that story gets told. The journal does not.

What I will say
Here is my own view, which you can weigh however you like.
What the peer-reviewed study validated was NanoAi’s core detection process: the underlying nanotechnology sensing science used to identify specific trace compounds at the nano level.
The target may change. It could be a compound associated with disease, or one linked to a security threat. But the fundamental challenge remains the same: detect the signal, identify what it means and produce an answer quickly enough to act on.
That is where interpretation becomes as important as detection.
Three things I would notice if I were you
If you do go and read it, I would rather flag these myself than have you find them and wonder why I stayed quiet.
The study is small. Eighty four patients, at one hospital, under an approved ethics protocol. That is enough to show a real difference. It is not enough to call anything settled.
And the commercial interest was declared. Four of the authors disclosed a significant interest in Sotech Health, and the University reviewed and managed that conflict. That is disclosure working the way it is meant to, and it is a reason to trust the process rather than doubt it.
Why this matters to us at Intellistake
A team took an idea from a computer model to a bench, from a bench to a working handheld device, from that device to a hospital with real patients and an ethics board, and then published the result somewhere it could be checked.
That is a track record. Not a forecast, not a promise. Something that already happened, written down where anyone can find it.
